elegslab Advocates for Diversified Alternative Testing Standards at the National Assembly Public Hearing

elegslab attended the Public Hearing for the "Promotion of Alternative Testing Methods Act" at the National Assembly Members' Hall, hosted by Representatives. This significant gathering brought together government agencies, industry leaders, and NGOs to deliberate on the legislative framework for transitioning away from traditional animal testing.

As North America, Europe, and Japan rapidly institutionalize alternative methods, the consensus was clear: South Korea must accelerate its regulatory and industrial response. While the legislative process is ongoing and requires further inter-ministerial coordination to establish clear standards, elegslab emphasized a critical point for the future of the bill.

elegslab strongly advocates that the scope of "Alternative Testing" should not be limited to Organ-on-a-Chip or Organoids but must also include invertebrate models such as C. elegans.

While Organ-on-a-Chip and Organoids are valuable, they face limitations in testing certain chemical compounds, complex disease models, and environmental hazards. In contrast, the C. elegans model provides a powerful scientific foundation for proving toxicity and efficacy mechanisms. We are confident that integrating C. elegans technology into the national legislative framework will play a pivotal role in the successful institutionalization and industrial growth of alternative testing in Korea.
